DBA Receives $10,000 Grant

ELLSWORTH — Down East Business Alliance (DBA) has been awarded a grant from the Quimby Family Foundation to support its annual Maine Farmers Market Convention and its work to help establish a Maine Farmers Market Association.

Keith Small, director of DBA, received the $10,000 check from the foundation’s board of directors in a ceremony at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport on Aug. 27.

There were 90 other recipients of grants from the foundation who were honored at the event. Other local recipients include The Bay School, College of the Atlantic, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, MOFGA, New Surry Theatre, and the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium.

The Maine Farmers Market Convention, now in its third year, will be held Jan. 28 and 29, 2011, at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast.

DBA, a division of Washington Hancock Community Agency, has been working with farmers and farmers market managers for several years in a professional development program to enhance their incomes and increase production capability.
