BAR HARBOR — A festival planned for the fall to celebrate dark skies received the full support of the town council Tuesday. By a vote of 7-0, the council agreed to endorse a letter in support of the Acadia Night Sky Festival that event backers will use as part of their fund-raising efforts. The festival is planned for Sept. 17 to 21, and includes plans for a Bangor Symphony Orchestra concert, star gazing activities, nighttime boat tours, and informative presentations. Festival backers hope that the festival will be very successful and turn into an annual event, councilor Julia Schloss said. Festival planning began shortly after the town received widespread, positive press concerning the passage of a dark sky lighting ordinance in November 2008.
