SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Common Good Soup Kitchen Community will be hosting a fund-raiser to support its winter programs on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 566 Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor. In addition to the regular Cabin Fever Saturday night food, live music and kids’ activities, master puppeteer Anthony Periale will be performing with his Perry Alley Theater Puppet show.
The puppet show gets under way at 6:30 p.m. “The response to our winter events has been incredibly enthusiastic and most gratifying,” said spokesperson Larry Stettner. “The weekly Friday lunches and once a month Sunday Suppers and now the Cabin Fever Saturday nights for families clearly are serving the winter community very well and lifting people’s spirits. We want to continue our programs for the rest of the winter at the same level of quantity and quality, not have to cut back or ever turn anyone away. We have zero administrative costs, our landlords donate the space to us rent-free for the winter, our unpaid volunteers do everything to make our events happen; from planning to shopping to chopping to cooking to serving and finally to cleaning. We had a summer kitty to get started; we keep our event costs as low as we can consistent with our emphasis on natural food and local sources, but we do have food and utility expenses coming up now that threaten to outstrip our resources, and so are holding this mid-winter fund-raiser to help us stay on track.”
