Coastal Remains Unbeaten

JUNIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL — In the Junior League baseball winners’ bracket, Coastal remained unbeaten with a 12-0 win over Acadian of Mount Desert Island on Saturday.

In the losers’ bracket, Ellsworth eliminated Bucksport 7-2 on Thursday, then ousted Calais with a 26-18 win on Saturday.

Ellsworth was eliminated by Acadian in an 11-2 win on Sunday, and on Monday Acadian kept its title hopes alive with a 5-4 win over Coastal.

The Acadians jumped in front 1-0 in the first inning and added two more runs in the fourth when Trevor Alley scored on a bunt by Adam Gray and Gray later stole home.

But Coastal knotted the score in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs when the Acadians misplayed a squeeze bunt by Finn Alwine and getting the third on another Acadian error.

Seth Vandegrift put Acadian back in front in the fifth, scoring on a single by Alley, and Alley stole third was driven in by Colin Mooers for a 5-3 Acadian lead.

Coastal got one run back in the bottom of the inning as Nick Trundy scored on an Acadian error but then the Acadian defense closed the door.

Ben Walls had two singles for Acadian and pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just two hits.
