COA Eyes Farm Purchase

BAR HARBOR — The College of the Atlantic (COA) is in negotiations to acquire a Bar Harbor farm on Crooked Road.

Officials at the college have been in talks for “a good while” about taking over ownership of a 43-acre farm at the corner of the Crooked Road and Norway Drive, COA president David Hales confirmed last week. The farm is currently owned by David Rockefeller of New York.

The scenic property has been used for years for cattle grazing and includes a 2,000-square-foot Cape Cod style house and a 2,100-square-foot garage. Conservation restrictions on the land ensure any future use must be agrarian in nature, Mr. Hales said. Acadia National Park holds the conservation easement.

The property is valued by the town at $468,000.
