City Council, Planners Review Parking Changes

ELLSWORTH — The days of parking lots encompassing vast tracts of land in Ellsworth will soon be over.

The city planning office has spent several months drafting a new parking ordinance, which was discussed Monday at a joint workshop of the City Council and Planning Board.

Previously, the city had required parking lots be built to satisfy the highest peak traffic flow times.

The new ordinance eases the existing downtown parking requirements.

Residents can view the new ordinance at City Hall or online on the city’s Web site,

The public will have two opportunities to comment on the new ordinance before it is adopted: at the Planning Board meeting Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and at the City Council meeting Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
