Cider Pressing Day Set for Oct. 3

BROOKLIN — The “Sowing Seeds” farm tours sponsored by the Blue Hill Co-op will conclude with a special event at 5 Star Nursery & Orchard on Sunday, Oct. 3.

A Community Cider Pressing Day will be held at the Brooklin orchard from 2 to 4 p.m.

Tim Seabrook and Leslie Cummins of 5 Star Nursery & Orchard have scheduled one pressing session for the day that will be two hours long.

They will press many varieties during that time, so the blending of apples will make a full-bodied cider.

Those planning to attend should bring sound, unsprayed, washed apples and very clean gallon size jugs to collect the cider.

A bushel will create about 3.5 gallons of cider.

There is a fee of $3 per gallon to offset running the cider house. Otherwise, the event is free. Registration is required. To register and for directions, contact Eileen at the Co-op at 374-2165 or [email protected].
