Caregiver Training Starts Sept. 29

BLUE HILL — The Maine Alzheimer’s Association is offering the Savvy Caregiver Training in the Caregiver Resource Center at Friendship Cottage in Blue Hill.


The Savvy Caregiver Training assists caregivers by providing instruction in the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for successful care giving of those with memory loss. The 12-hour training is provided in two-hour sessions over six weeks. The trainings will be held on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. from Sept. 29 to Nov. 3.

Caregivers will learn: what dementia is and how it affects the person who has it; how to interact effectively with the person with dementia; how to help the person with dementia participate in daily tasks and activities that support the person in being contented throughout the day; how to take care of yourself as a caregiver; and how to develop a sense of mastery in the caregiver role so that you feel good about the job you are doing.
