BAR HARBOR – All five candidates running for two openings on the town council here have agreed to participate in a live forum on the evening of Tuesday, May 25, at 7 p.m.
Those running include Dessa Dancy of Town Hill, Matt Horton of Bar Harbor, incumbent Paul Paradis of Bar Harbor, James Riley of Bar Harbor and Chris Walsh of Town Hill.
The forum, which is being hosted by the Mount Desert Islander, will give members of the public a chance to submit written questions for the candidates. Questions will be collected and collated at the start of the debate. All questions will be posed to the participants by the moderator. Each candidate will have two minutes to answer a question. After all five have responded, each also will have a 1-minute period to rebut or provide additional information.
Each candidate will be given several minutes to make an opening statement at the beginning and a closing statement at the end of the debate. There also will be a chance to mingle with the candidates after the end of the formal discussion period at 8:30 p.m.
Coverage of the debate will appear in the Mount Desert Islander and on www.fenceviewer.com. It also will be televised live on the town’s local access cable channel 7, and rebroadcast several times prior to town meeting voting on June 8.
Along with electing two town councilors and a school board member, voters at town meeting will also be weighing in on several zoning questions concerning Town Hill, local agriculture, the CAT ferry terminal, parking in the downtown area, and a proposed $1 million bond to subsidize the Northeast Creek affordable housing project.
The forum will be held in the town council chambers on the second floor of the municipal building on Cottage Street.
