Mount Desert Island Hospital has announced the addition of two new team members.

Mike Mahan has assumed the position of executive director at Birch Bay Village. Mahan comes to Bar Harbor from Biloxi, Miss., where he most recently served as the executive director for Seashore Retirement Community.


While at Seashore, which consisted of 231 living units, he oversaw operations throughout Hurricane Katrina, ensuring the safety of all residents. He brings more than 20 years of experience providing housing and services to seniors. Mahan received a BA degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a major in political science and a minor in business.

Bill Swain has joined the MDI Hospital organization as the new public affairs officer. Swain has a diverse background in marketing, public relations, journalism and communications; most recently working in a technical communications role for a large pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Previously, Swain held communications and marketing positions at Sugarloaf ski and golf resort. He received his BS degree from Clemson University with a major in economics.
