Business of Reading Seeking Volunteers

BAR HARBOR — The Business of Reading Festival, an annual community celebration of reading at the Connors/Emerson School, will be held Oct. 22-26.

The festival is supported by the Bar Harbor Rotary and relies on the generous support of the Bar Harbor PTSA and people from the community. More than one hundred community members are needed to ensure the success of the festival.

Participation requires only a half hour of time. Most guest readers enjoy the experience as much as the students. Volunteers are assigned to a specific classroom to explain how reading is important to their work and to share a favorite book or passage with the students.

The organizing committee hopes that people from all walks of life will consider volunteering their time to this worthy event. Anyone interested in sparking a child’s interest in reading or helping to make a connection between reading for business or for pleasure, is urged to participate.

For more information or to register, please contact Siobhan Ryan (288-4467, ext. 1040 or [email protected]) or visit and fill out an online form.

“We will be in touch in early October to let you know your reading assignment,” said Ms. Ryan.
