BUCKSPORT — There’s power in the group approach, according to interventionist David Kee.

His year-old business, Interventions in Maine, helps people stage interventions for loved ones suffering from addiction or depression.

“The whole purpose is to get someone who needs it into rehab,” Kee explained.

Kee is not a counselor or psychologist. He is a retired lawyer who happens to have more then 20 years experience in facilitating interventions.

He has led them on a volunteer basis for the Maine State Bar Association. The group, which he is a past president of, gave him the John Ballou Award for his work with addicted lawyers and their families.

Kee is also former director of the Maine Assistance Program for Lawyers and Judges, which helps lawyers and judges who have been impaired by chemical dependencies or mental conditions.

Kee estimates he has been involved in hundreds of interventions over the years.
