Brooklin Town Meeting Set for April 2 and 3


What: Brooklin Annual Town Meeting.


When/where: Friday, April 2, 2 p.m at the town office to select a moderator and hold annual secret-ballot election of officers. Polls open from 2 to 8 p.m. There are no contested races on the ballot.

Saturday, April 3, 9 a.m. reconvene at the Brooklin School for business portion of meeting.

Proposed municipal budget:

Approximately $739,394.

Proposed school budget: $1,872,143, which represents an increase of $24,534 or 1.3 percent over the current budget. The amount to be raised by taxation to support the proposed school budget is $1,527,428, a decrease of $121,852 or 7.4 percent of the current budget.

Unusual articles: Article M6 asks voters to appropriate money from surplus to construct a veterans memorial. Selectmen recommend appropriating $4,000.

Article M7 asks voters to appropriate from surplus money for village improvement, including parking lot improvements at church and library area.

Article M8 asks voters to authorize the exploration of alternative energy technologies.
