Boat Photographer To Speak at GSA

BLUE HILL — George Stevens Academy’s Summer Speaker Series continues on Tuesday, Aug. 18, with a talk by photographer Benjamin Mendlowitz.

The program is titled “The Marine Photography of Benjamin Mendlowitz, with a Focus on Classic Yacht Restoration.”

The talk is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the school’s air-conditioned Esther Wood Room.

Mendlowitz has traveled the globe for over 25 years to photograph wooden boats. He is well known throughout the boating world for his contributions to nautical publications and for his award-winning Calendar of Wooden Boats, which he has published since 1983.

Seven books of his photography have also been published to date.

The focus of Mendlowitz’s work is to capture the beauty, romance and fine craftsmanship that are the hallmarks of a classic wooden boat.

Mendlowitz will give a visual presentation, including commentary, to be followed by questions and discussion.

The talk is free and open to the public.
