ELLSWORTH — Board members and coaches are now in place for the newly formed Ellsworth Football League and efforts are turning toward fund-raising.
With purchase of uniforms and equipment necessary before the end of June, the league needs to raise about $25,000, according to Duane Crawford, who has been one of the organizers.
Vice President Jodi King is heading up the fund-raising effort and anyone interested in helping or donating can e-mail her at [email protected]
The league board also includes Harold “Tug” White, president; Jen Grover, secretary; and Fay Boles, treasurer.
Town delegates to date are Keith Boyer, Otis/Mariaville; Shane Lowell, Ellsworth; Pat Maguire, Ellsworth; and James Harmon, Surry.
Les Ranco will serve as coaching director as well as head coach for the grades 7-8 team, with Matt Corcoran as assistant.
Bill Smith and Matthew Martin will share head coach duties for the grades 5-6 team with Jason Lee as assistant.
Joel Horne is head coach and Boyer, Allen Smith and Michael Hamby are assistants for the grades 3-4 team.
Approximately 25 players have indicated interest in each team, and one game already has been scheduled.
The grades 7-8 team will play a team from the Acadian Football League on Mount Desert Island on Sept. 8, and other games will be scheduled for the fall season.
