DEER ISLE — Wings, Waves & Woods, a weekend of birding “by land, by sea and by art,” will be held May 15-17 in Deer Isle. Sponsored by Island Heritage Trust, the Deer Isle-Stonington Chamber of Commerce and Downeast Audubon, the weekend offers beginning and experienced birders the opportunity to enjoy the early spring migration and habitats of a rich variety of birds.
On Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17, guided walks will be held with area bird experts through woods, fields and shoreline in search of warblers, songbirds, as well as nesting eagles, loons, eiders and other shore birds.
Boat and kayak trips on Saturday will offer visitors the opportunity to see puffins, loons, eiders, eagles and perhaps seals from a different perspective.
A reception Friday evening from 5 to 7 at the Pearson Legacy Gallery will mark the spring opening of several galleries and studios.
All guided walks are free.
