Benefit Concert Set in Hancock

HANCOCK — The Union Congregational Church of Hancock, United Church of Christ, will present a second benefit concert, this time by The Somerset Consort, on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Alley family, which is building a home in partnership with Hancock County Habitat for Humanity.

Consort members Diana Brookes Brown, flute, Lorna Brookes Russell, viola da gamba, and Carlton T. Russell, harpsichord and organ, will be joined by flutist Richard Sanner in a program of mostly Baroque music.

The program will include organ transcriptions of music by Handel, and flute sonatas and trio sonatas by German and English composers, including Quantz and Daniel Purcell.

An unaccompanied flute duet by Carl Stamitz will add a dash of the classical style.

Union Congregational Church is located on U.S. Route 1 in Hancock.

A suggested tax-deductible donation is $20. A light reception will follow.
