BAR HARBOR — In its last session, the Maine Legislature passed a joint resolution authorizing the creation of the Maine State Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame will be launched on Friday, July 23, at Bar Harbor’s Kebo Valley Golf Club as part of the KC Jones/Mount Desert Island YMCA Basketball Week.
The day’s events will begin with an 18-hole golf tournament in a four-person scramble format with a noon start.
The tournament will be limited to 32 teams and registrations are due by Friday, July 9. The registration fee is $99 per person.

Immediately following the golf tournament, a reception will be held at the Kebo Valley clubhouse with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a raffle and auction. Tournanent awards will be presented by KC Jones of Boston Celtics fame.
Also on hand for the event will be Maine Basketball Commissioner Peter Webb and former University of Maine player and coach Skip Chappelle.
The vision behind the Basketball Hall of Fame also will be outlined as part of the program.
The goal of the hall is to recognize outstanding teams, players, coaches, officials, athletic administrators, media members and other organizations and persons who have made significant contributions to Maine basketball over its 100-year history.
Leadership will include a board of directors, officers, a selection committee and an executive secretary. Each of Maine’s 16 counties will be represented by a research/resource/identification committee.
