Area Churches Announce Christmas Service Schedules



Churches throughout the area have announced their service schedules for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

In Ellsworth, St. Joseph Catholic Church will hold Christmas Eve Masses at 4, 7 and 10 p.m.

Mass on Christmas morning is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Ellsworth United Methodist Church’s Christmas Sunday service is scheduled for Dec. 23 at 11 a.m.

The church will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service of scriptures and carols at 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 24. There will also be a live nativity in front of the church at 7 that evening.

The church is located at 21 Hancock St. in Ellsworth.

The First Congregational Church of Ellsworth will hold its Christmas Sunday worship on Dec. 23 at 10 a.m.

St. Andrew Lutheran Church will hold candlelight services on Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m. in Cherryfield and at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. in Ellsworth.

The Cherryfield service will be held at the Maine Sea Coast Mission.

St. Thomas Anglican Traditional Church will host a service of organ music, carols and Evensong at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and Holy Communion at 9 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Maine Coast Baptist Church will hold Christmas services at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23.

The service will be preceded by a fellowship coffee at 9:30.

There will also be a candlelight service at 6 p.m.

The following is a partial list of Christmas services at other area churches:

Bar Harbor

Holy Redeemer Church in Bar Harbor will host Christmas Eve Masses at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 24 and Christmas Day Mass at 4 p.m. on Dec. 25.

St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve Family Eucharist at 4 p.m. Dec. 24, followed by a Choral Eucharist at 10.

Holy Eucharist on Christmas Day is scheduled for 7:30 a.m.

Christmas Eve Holy Eucharist is scheduled for 4 p.m. at St. Andrew and St. John Episcopal Parish while Christmas Day Holy Eucharist is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Blue Hill

A family Christmas Eve service at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill is scheduled for Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

There will also be a candlelight service at 10 p.m.

Brooksville

The Brooksville United Methodist Church’s Christmas Eve service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 24.

The church is located at 713 Coastal Road, next to Buck’s Market. All are welcome.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. the Rev. George Bland will lead the fourth Sunday in Advent worship service at the West Brooksville Congregational Church, UCC.

The service will feature the message “Moving with Mary’s Song” as well as the lighting of Advent candles.

The church will also host a family Christmas Eve worship service of special music, lessons, carols and candlelight on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

Local musician Richard Merrill and his family will provide special music.

The church is located on Route 176, the Coastal Road, in West Brooksville and all are welcome to attend both services.

Bucksport

The Rev. Mary Angela Davis of Elm Street Congregational Church in Bucksport will lead a Christmas Eve worship service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m.

All are welcome.

Masses are scheduled at St. Vincent DePaul Parish at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 10:30 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Castine

On Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Castine the Rev. Mark Worth will explain “How St. Nicholas Became Santa Claus.”

A worship service and Sunday school are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Meeting House on the Town Common, followed by a social hour.

Visitors are always welcome.

On Monday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, the congregation will host a celebration of Christmas in a service of candlelight and carols beginning at 5 p.m.

The worship service will be led by Worth and Juliane Gardner and Chris Poulin will contribute special music of the season.

The public is invited to a candlelight Christmas Eve service at the Trinitarian Congregational Parish of Castine.

The family-friendly service of music, word and light is scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m.

Christmas Eve Mass at Our Lady of Hope Church is scheduled for 9 p.m.

Cherryfield

The Cherryfield Congregational Church will hold its candlelight Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

The church is located on River Road in Cherryfield. All are welcome to attend the service of candles, carols and readings.

Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Christmas Day at St. Michael Church.

Northeast Harbor

St. Mary’s and St. Jude’s Church will hold a Christmas service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m.

The Rev. Patricia Rome Robertson will be the celebrant.

The service, which will include a Christmas pageant and Holy Communion, will be held in St. Mary’s Chapel, 5 Kimball Road in Northeast Harbor.

St. Mary Star of the Sea Church will have Christmas Eve Mass at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24.

Sullivan

Ashville Community Church invites Schoodic area residents to come “home for the holiday” on Christmas Eve.

The church’s Christmas Eve service is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 24.

“As families gather for Christmas, what better way to start the celebration than with candles, carols and the Christmas story?” said the Rev. Ray Blaisdell, the church’s pastor. “We invite everyone to recover an old family tradition or to begin a new one with your friends and neighbors.”

The guest speaker and worship leader for the event will be the Rev. Donald H. Ashmall, council minister of the International Council of Community Churches, headquartered in Frankfort, Ill. Ashmall served as pastor of the Ashville church before beginning his present position two years ago.

The church is located at 151 Ashville Road in Sullivan, just off U.S. Route 1.
