Annual Smelt Fry Set for April 22

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Downeast Salmon Federation will be holding its 2011 Annual Smelt Fry on April 22 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Columbia Falls Fire Department grounds under the “DSF Big Tent.”

This year, the organization has arranged for an even larger tent with hot dogs, smelts and the popular bounce house for children.

There will also be duplicate church supper-style food tables to alleviate the wait time.

The smelts will be deep fried to by volunteers and served alongside choices of chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans and blueberry cobbler.

With the meal being catered, anyone attending who supplements the dessert table will receive a $2 discount on admission. This year the cost will be $6 per adult, $4 for children with a maximum of $20 for families.

The organization also will be showcasing and presenting awards for the artwork submitted to the 2011 annual Downeast Salmon Federation Student Art Contest and celebrating the organization’s successes.
