Alamo Theatre receives grant

BUCKSPORT — The Alamo Theatre has received a $7,880 grant from the Hancock County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to enhance services for community performances and presentations.

“As energized community groups in Bucksport plan more cultural activities, from concerts to panel discussions, this grant will give the Alamo the sound and lighting equipment performers and speakers expect,” said David Weiss, executive director of Northeast Historic Film, which runs the Alamo.

The Alamo Theatre, built in 1916, was purchased by Northeast Historic Film, the nonprofit moving image archives, which reopened the movie theatre in 1999.

Since then the Alamo has presented 6,000 film screenings and 1,000 other presentations to over 300,000 people.
