Afghan Conflict Talk in SW Harbor

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Retired foreign service officer Louis Sell will speak on “Russia and Central Asia: Their Take on the Afghan Conflict” at the Southwest Harbor Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m.


Sell spent most of his 28-year foreign service career dealing with the USSR and Russia. His talk will focus on the special historical, geographic, ethnic, political and military perspectives that Russia and Central Asia bring to the Afghan conflict.

Sell’s presentation is part of a Camden Conference partnership with Mount Desert Island’s larger libraries and the Acadia Senior College.

The 23rd annual Camden Conference, scheduled for Feb. 19-21, 2010, is titled “Afghanistan, Pakistan and India: Crossroads of Conflict.”
