Acadia Senior College talk set

BAR HARBOR — Acadia Senior College is hosting a talk titled “The Gulf of Maine: Pressures and Promise” on Friday, Jan. 25, at Birch Bay Village Inn.

Steven Katona, past president of College of the Atlantic and a co-founder of Allied Whale, will be the featured speaker.

Katona will discuss some of the pressures affecting Maine’s marine resources and the coastal communities dependent on them.

The presentation will explore examples of how marine and human communities are responding to climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification, invasive species and human activities such as fishing, oil exploration, shipping and other issues of current interest.

The lecture runs from noon to 1 p.m. and is free, and a hot buffet lunch is available at 11:30 a.m. for $12. Reservations, required for either, must be received by noon on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
