Trail building at Jordan Homestead Wednesday morning

ELLSWORTH — Volunteers who would like to help build a new trail at the future Jordan Homestead Preserve on the Bayside Road should meet on Wednesday, June 27, at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Tidal Falls Preserve in Hancock (for those who want to carpool), or call 422-2328 for information on where to park near the Jordan Homestead.

Bring gloves, sturdy footwear and a favorite yard or trail tool. There will also be gloves and tools on hand.

The trail to be completed this summer will be a loop over a mile long passing through the open field (where there are nesting swallows, bluebirds and bobolinks) and through the forest along the water with wide views of the Union River and a beautiful stretch of trail that follows picturesque Whittaker Brook.

Frenchman Bay Conservancy acquired the property in November of last year for $190,000. The group hopes to raise $220,000 to cover stewardship, trail creation, purchase expenses and the cost of parking lot creation.
