DEDHAM — Live in Dedham or Lucerne and looking for a way to get involved in town governance? There are a few spots open for you on several Dedham town boards and committees.
Michelle Begin, the administrative assistant to the selectmen, said there are three spots open on the Planning Board, three on the Budget Committee and three on the Cemetery Committee.
Two of the Budget Committee spots opened up when two of its former members were elected to the post of selectman last month, Begin said.
Two Cemetery Committee spots opened up when one former selectman passed away and another moved away in 2017. Two of the Planning Board spots have been open for a while, Begin said.
“It’s been a couple years, so I figured we’d include them as well,” she explained
Only one of the open spots on the Planning Board is a voting position. The other two are alternates. The alternates can vote in case some of the voting members are unavailable, Begin said.
The positions are all three-year terms. Interested residents can apply by calling the town office at 843-6217.
While there is no hard deadline for the applications, Begin said the town would like to appoint people to the Budget Committee by the time of the next selectmen’s meeting on Jan. 18.
Begin said the next Cemetery Committee meeting is in April, and the Planning Board can still operate with its four current members, but having a full board would be ideal.
Dedham’s Fire Department also is looking for new members, Begin said. The positions are paid-volunteer, meaning firefighters will be paid by the hour for training and responding to calls but still be officially considered volunteers.
Volunteers will be paid more per hour if they learn advanced first responder skills such as emergency medicine, Begin said.
