BLUE HILL — The organization called “Blue Hill Cares” is organizing a road-side cleanup in Blue Hill on Saturday, May 4.
Participants should meet in the Blue Hill Consolidated School gymnasium at 8 a.m. for supplies including trash bags, safety vests and gloves and directions on what roads need to be cleaned.
If you have a stretch of road you’re interested in cleaning, contact Selectman Vaughn Leach at 266-2975 or email [email protected]
Leach and Chrissy Allen, development director at Blue Hill Heritage Trust, are organizing the event so that every road in town has volunteers picking up roadside trash.
Leave your trash bags, once full, on the roadside and they will be picked up and delivered to the Blue Hill-Surry Transfer Station.
Leach said to leave the trash bags on the side of the road that heads toward the transfer station so volunteers don’t have to cross two lanes of traffic to retrieve the bags.
Event organizers and Blue Hill Disposal will be picking up the bags.
Leach said volunteers have been collecting an average of three tons of trash a year on cleanup day.
