ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Food Drive is seeking support from the local business community to meet its 2019 fundraising goal of $25,000.
The food drive is a month-long food collection and fundraising project that happens annually in March and directly supports food pantries, free meal programs and school backpack programs across Hancock County.
Members of the Hancock County Food Security Network work together throughout the month of March to raise funds and collect food, providing critical assistance during a time of year when resources are needed more than ever.
In 2018, the drive collected 4,250 food items and raised nearly $23,000 from sponsors, school collections and private donors.
The eighth annual food drive will kick off with a multi-site, county-wide donation drive on Saturday, March 2.
Area grocers, retailers and downtown businesses will host food drive volunteers to collect food and raise money for participating food security organizations.
The Hancock County Food Drive is sponsored by United Way of Eastern Maine, Maine Community Foundation, Star 97.7, Maine Coast Mall, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Healthy Acadia and is made possible by the efforts of the Hancock County Food Security Network members and their volunteers.
To become an official food drive sponsor, make a donation of $50 or greater to the Hancock County Food Drive and/or participate as a host site for the one-day kick-off donation drive on March 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
