Bucksport Bay Festival kicks off July 19

BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fundraiser, the Bucksport Bay Festival, downtown from Friday, July 19, through Sunday, July 21.

The festival attracts 3,000 to 5,000 people to town each July, said festival organizer Nathalie Arruda.

Kicking things off will be a pageant for girls from infants to age 16 on the waterfront near the gazebo Friday at 4 p.m. Admission is $4 per seat. Kalena Pearce, USA National Miss Maine 2019, will emcee the pageant.

The Buckport Animal Shelter and the SPCA of Hancock County will host a Pet Palooza Friday at 6 p.m.

Saturday will start with the Bucksport High School Booster Club serving a pancake breakfast in the marina parking lot.

A parade, which starts at 9:30 a.m., will follow the breakfast.

Parade lineup is at 8:30 at the old mill parking lot on the River Road.

There will also be food and craft vendors and a Kids Center with activities for children and the whole family on Saturday.

New this year at the Kids Center is a live animal exhibit from Wildlife Encounters Ecology Center & Farm School.

Fort Knox, across the bay, is hosting a Civil War encampment starting Saturday at 10 a.m. The Civil War Weekend will feature living history demonstrations and cannon firing.

Brews by the Bay, a beer tasting event for those 21 and older, will be held Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. at 99 Main St. Shirt Tale Kin will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Brews by the Bay stage.

Dinghy races start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday also will feature live music at the Bucksport Town Dock Stage starting at 5 p.m. with local band Right Out Straight, followed by Motor Booty Affair at 7 p.m.

A fireworks show over the Penobscot River will cap off Saturday’s events.

Crosby’s Drive-In will host a car show on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

A “Find a Fish” scavenger hunt will occur throughout the weekend on Main Street in Bucksport.
