BAR HARBOR — Town councilors on July 3 unanimously expressed a “receptive” attitude to the potential expansion of the YMCA, the donation of YMCA land on Edgewood Street to the town, and the subsequent leasing of that land back to the YMCA for a nominal fee.

The land the YMCA currently sits on also is owned by the town. The leaders of the YMCA are planning a capital campaign to raise funds to expand their facility to build a second pool, new fitness room and new childcare facilities. Town meeting approval would be necessary for the land swap and lease. The issue is set to come before voters this November.
