Wreaths Across America events set for Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — The Wreaths Across America convoy will stop in Ellsworth again this year on Sunday, Dec. 10, the third year such a stop has been made.

The convoy is expected to arrive at the Maine Coast Mall on High Street around 9 a.m. Sunday, according to Hancock County Sheriff Scott Kane, after leaving Naraguagus High School around 8 that morning.

A ceremony will then take place at 9:15 in front of the mall, after all the vehicles have arrived.

After Sunday’s ceremony, the convoy will continue on its way down the East Coast to Arlington National Cemetery, where it is set to arrive on Saturday, Dec. 16.

In Ellsworth on the 16th, wreaths will be placed for the first time on veterans’ graves at Woodbine Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America program.

Donors raised enough money to place more than 400 wreaths on the hundreds of veterans’ graves at Woodbine. The placing of the wreaths will begin at noon on Dec. 16, and the public is invited to attend and participate.
