SULLIVAN — A Milbridge woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon on Route 1 in Sullivan.

The crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m., according to state police.

Police said a 2009 GMC Sierra driven by George Rippere, 62, of Naples, Fla., was traveling south on Route 1 when Rippere crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided with a green 2001 Volkswagen Newbee driven by Sharon Rolfe, 62, of Milbridge.

Rolfe sustained severe trauma and injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rolfe’s passenger, Karen Pineo, 63, of Corinth was transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for possible injuries. Rippere also was transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for multiple injuries, none life-threatening.

Both vehicles were deemed total losses as a result of the accident. Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is continuing.

Trooper Jessica Shorey was assisted at the scene by Detective Bryant Scott, Detective Carleton Small, Trooper Daniel Ryan and Sgt. Jeffrey Ingemi along with personnel from Sullivan Fire Department and County Ambulance.
