Witham Family Hotels sells Ramada Inn and two Bar Harbor properties

ELLSWORTH — The Ramada Inn at 215 High St. has changed hands. The former Witham Family Hotels property has new owners, David Witham recently confirmed. Giri Ellsworth Inc. of Wyndham Hotels assumed ownership last month, according to its business permit application, which lists Giri Hotel Management owner Ashish Sangani as owner. Wyndham Hotels is headquartered in Quincy, Mass.

The Witham Family Hotels also sold the Quality Inn and Best Western in Bar Harbor to Giri Properties, which also owns hotels in Bangor and other Maine cities.

The Witham Family Hotels portfolio now has the Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn in Ellsworth, along with six properties in Bar Harbor, with the Bar Harbor Inn remaining the Witham Family Hotel flagship property, Witham told The American.

“We are excited about this opportunity and the position these sales put us in going forward,” Witham said. “Obviously, many factors impacted the decision, but one goal for Witham Family Hotels was to be able to focus our energies on our independent properties in Bar Harbor while enhancing our presence in Ellsworth by taking on some exciting capital improvement projects.”

The Ramada Inn has approximately 15 employees and hosted the Poinsettia Ball for Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, an event Witham said the company will miss taking part in.

The American reached out to Giri Properties about its future plans for the hotels but did not receive a reply by press time.
