Winkumpaugh Road Burglary Under Investigation



ELLSWORTH — Police are investigating a burglary on Winkumpaugh Road residence that was reported Monday.

Thieves broke into sheds at the residence and stole $1,000 worth of wood, said Officer Amie Torrey.

A McDonald Avenue resident called police Monday to report that someone stole money while she was sleeping.

Bad Check

Authorities have charged a Lamoine man with allegedly writing a $5,611 bad check at a local auto dealership.

Michael J. Jordan, 47, was summoned on a charge of negotiating a worthless instrument.

Jordan is scheduled for an initial appearance in Hancock County Superior Court May 22.

Internet Harassment

A resident complained Saturday about the girlfriend of her baby’s father, who is allegedly making “unkind statements” about her on the Internet, police reported.

Accidents

A pickup truck struck a car that had been stopped at a red light at Route 1A and State Street March 25, police said. The motorist was distracted and didn’t see that the car had stopped, police reported.

Doris Nalley, 45, of Franklin had been driving a 2005 Dodge, which struck a 1993 Buick operated by Russell Hooper of Bass Harbor, police said.

An officer estimated $9,000 in damage to the truck and $7,000 for the car.

Police arrested a motorist after his pickup truck crossed a center island, struck a signpost, entered an oncoming lane then struck a steel traffic light pole on Route 1 March 18.

Officer Amie Torrey arrested David Briggs, 49, of Bangor on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.

Briggs had been driving east in a 1996 Ford, which was a total loss, Torrey said. Witnesses said they thought Briggs had turned around to get an all-terrain vehicle that had fallen out of the truck, the officer reported.
