MOUNT DESERT — Windsurfer Carson Crain is campaigning for the 2016 Olympics in the RS:X class. He made his official announcement on July 28 at the Northeast Harbor Fleet house, where he has been sailing for 13 years.
There are 10 Olympic sailing classes, and only one athlete will represent the United States in the men’s RS: X class in the 2016 Olympics.
Qualifying for the Olympics in this class is a two-step process, according to Crain: first the US athletes have to qualify the US for a spot in the competition, then one of them is chosen to fill that spot.
