Venerable Newman skiff mold bought by Newman and Gray

CRANBERRY ISLES — Newman and Gray Boatyard has bought the molds for the 10- and 12-foot rowing skiffs built for decades by Mount Desert Island boat building icon Jarvis Newman.

The molds were purchased from CW Hood Yachts in Marblehead, Mass. Hood acquired the molds when they bought the assets of Jarvis Newman, Inc years ago.

Newman sold his company when he retired from boat building, retaining a brokerage and storage facility in Southwest Harbor. The assets changed hands several times before being bought by CW Hood.
