ELLSWORTH — Georges River Trout Unlimited will host a Downeast Chapter meeting on Wednesday, May 15, at Pat’s Pizza in Ellsworth.
The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. with an informal gathering for those who wish to establish a Trout Unlimited chapter in Downeast Maine. The featured presentation begins at 7.
Shri Verrill, a Downeast Salmon Federation expert in salt marsh and estuarine ecology, will give a presentation on the habitat restoration of a smelt brook in Sullivan.
Verrill has served as a volunteer on the board for the Society for Ecological Restoration New England Chapter, on the Legislative Committee for the Maine Association of Wetland Scientists and as a lobbyist with the Natural Resource Council of Maine and the Sierra Club to advocate for sustenance and subsistence living rights.
She hopes to help restore the habitat of sea-run fish and the human connection to them. Verrill may be reached at [email protected].
There will be a raffle directly following the speaker. Meetings are free and open to the public.
Trout Unlimited is a nonprofit organization with a mission dedicated to conserve, protect and restore North America’s cold water fisheries and their watersheds.
