Sailing Paralympics

CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy sailing coach Tom Brown of Mount Desert is now training to qualify for the 2012 Paralympics in England.

Mr. Brown is a native of Northeast Harbor and lived there until 2007, when he moved to Castine to join Maine Maritime Academy as varsity sailing coach. Mr. Brown already won the 2000 2.4-meter Paralympic Trials and the bronze medal in Sydney, Australia. He was nominated in 2001 for U.S. Sailing Male Athlete of the Year and in 2004 he was nominated for Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. Mr. Brown went on to win the 2004 2.4-Meter U.S. Paralympic Trials and won the silver medal in Athens, Greece.
