    AUGUSTA — Open-water fishing season for fresh water begins April 1. Free family fishing days are on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. On these days, any person (except those whose license has been suspended or revoked) may fish without a license. All other laws and regulations apply on these days.

    AUGUSTA — The deadline for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection grant program covering 50 percent of the cost to replace commercial marine engines with Tier II engines has been extended to Wednesday, April 15. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides $1.7 million for the Maine Clean Diesel Program to support diesel emission reduction activities. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is using State Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) funds to develop a Maine Clean Marine Engine Program. Projects must be completed by September 2010.
