PROSPECT — The opening of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory will be delayed for several weeks, the Maine Department of Transportation announced Friday.
A valve on the observatory’s fire suppression system failed. The department has ordered a replacement but the part needs to be specially constructed, said DOT spokesman Paul Merrill.
The fire suppression needs to be fully operational before the DOT can open the observatory to the public.
The DOT said it hopes to open the observatory by Memorial Day weekend.
