ELLSWORTH — The consultant who shaped the design of the state’s new lobster marketing board has been hired to help it design an aggressive and effective marketing strategy.
Last week, the Department of Marine Resources (DMR) announced that it had signed a contract with John Sauve, managing partner of the Portland-based Food and Wellness Group, to “guide the transition of Maine Lobster brand marketing into a new and more aggressive era targeting increased global demand.”
Suave was hired by the DMR Lobster Advisory Council two years ago to help devise better ways to market the state’s signature fisheries product.
He developed a $3 million marketing strategy, dubbed “Project Maine Lobster,” to be funded by the lobster industry to build global awareness of the Maine lobster brand. Earlier this year, Gov. Paul LePage signed legislation establishing the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative (MLMC) to implement that strategy.
