Maritime Film Festival looks for entrants February 3, 2018 on News, Waterfront BUCKSPORT — The International Maritime Film Festival is seeking submissions for its upcoming cinema event. The International Maritime Film Festival is a juried contest for films celebrating the heritage, spirit of adventure and ingenuity of boats and waterborne pursuits. The organizers say that the festival “is the premier event for maritime-themed film making.” Now in its third year, the festival is a joint venture between Main Street Bucksport and WoodenBoat Publications in Brooklin. Screenings will take place in the historic Alamo Theatre in downtown Bucksport between Friday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 30. In the months after festival weekend, a collection of the winners will be offered to venues worldwide. The International Maritime Film Festival accepts films on a broad range of maritime subjects. These include but are not limited to: voyaging; racing; working; leisure; boatbuilding and restoration; historical documentary; and environment and science. Judging is not category-specific; rather, all films will be evaluated in relation to each other, in one of two groups: feature length (40 minutes or more); or shorts (under 40 minutes). All films must be in English or have English subtitles. A grand prize of $1,000 will be awarded in each category. The runner-up in each group will receive $500. The Audience Favorite will be determined on festival weekend and will receive $500. Submissions should be made online at maritimefilmfestival.com. The entry fee is $50.
