Lobstermen’s Association to Host Candidates Forum Sept. 22

ELLSWORTH — The Maine Lobstermen’s Association will host a meeting with local candidates for the state Legislature on Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Ellsworth City Hall auditorium.

The session is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m.

The goal of the meeting is both to introduce the candidates to lobstermen and to inform the candidates of the issues facing the Maine lobster industry.

The meeting is open to the general public.

The discussions will include an introduction to the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, which has advocated in support of Maine’s lobster industry for more than 50 years, and an overview of the Maine lobster industry’s current state.

Topics that are likely to be discussed include market factors that are affecting lobster prices, challenges surrounding bait supply, possible impacts of future whale regulations on the industry and the need for leadership in Augusta to support longstanding lobster conservation measures.
