Lobster Prices Sink

STONINGTON — The floor appeared to drop out of the market for lobsters on Monday as the boat price for shedders fell to $1.50 per pound at the Stonington Lobster Co-op.

The last time the price of lobster was so low for any sustained period of time was more than 30 years ago. During the economic collapse of 2008, the boat price hovered around $2 for several months.

Although most of the Stonington fleet was reportedly fishing on Monday, only 38 boats that sell to the co-op fished on Saturday, when the boat price was $1.75 per pound.
