TREMONT — David Schlaefer, the town’s harbormaster, has submitted his resignation, which becomes effective June 28.
In his resignation letter, Schlaefer writes that he is leaving due to an “increasingly hostile work environment.” He has served in the position for four years.
Schlaefer submitted the letter on Friday. On Monday, an emergency meeting of the harbor committee was called to discuss the issue. That meeting was canceled due to the lack of a quorum.
Selectmen on Monday decided to postpone taking any action on the resignation until they can meet with Schlaefer. Two board members, Lester Closson and Jim Laprade, were uneasy with the move.
Laprade questioned why the resignation was not being accepted.
“Where I come from when someone resigns they resign, that’s it.”
The question went unanswered.
