Fishing Rules to Change

ELLSWORTH — With more than 200 proposed changes to Maine’s current fishing regulations on the docket, members of the public are invited to provide feedback during upcoming public hearings across the state.

Five hearings are scheduled, representing five areas of the state. Officials are urging comments from the public on any of the 226 proposed changes to open-water and ice fishing regulations in Maine at these hearings. Any accepted changes would be enacted for the 2012-2013 fishing season.

Locally, a hearing is set for Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, 215 High St. in Ellsworth.

Anyone who is unable to attend a hearing is still able to comment on any of the proposed rule changes in writing by mailing comments to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, SHS 41, 284 State St., Augusta ME 04330. The deadline for receiving written comments is Monday, Nov. 21.
