Water Street Project Gets Under Way

ELLSWORTH — Sargent Corp. began work Monday to replace 2,600 feet of aging water main on Water Street from Main Street to Washington Street.

City Manager Michelle Beal said the project also includes replacing the sidewalk along the east side of Water Street to Washington Street.

Beal said the project should be finished by June 30.

Traffic will be kept flowing on Water Street, although there may be times when only one-way alternating traffic is possible, she said.

“They cannot close the road, so they always have to maintain traffic,” said Beal.

Beal said traffic disruption will be kept as minimal as possible during the duration of the project and businesses and residents will have access to their properties.

The good news is that work on the busy Water Street and Main Street intersection will occur at night.

Beal said Sargent would begin working on the intersection sometime next week starting at 7 p.m. and ending early in the morning.
