Warrant error disrupts Penobscot Town Meeting

PENOBSCOT – Due to a typo in the town warrant, the annual town meeting was adjourned at 9:45 Tuesday and will reconvene Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. to take up the education warrant articles.

Voters during Monday’s annual election put finance committee member Sara Leighton on the select board.

Leighton received 103 votes to candidate Janine Kimball’s 43.

Leighton will replace Sylvia Tapley, who decided not to seek re-election.

Town Clerk Sally Bridges said no one ran on the ballot for finance committee, which had an opening due to Richard Washburn’s decision to leave the committee.

Bridges said Royce Hardin ran as a write-in candidate and was elected to the committee with 42 votes.

Meanwhile, the committee now has another opening. Leighton must resign from the committee to serve on the select board.

Bridges said the select board will appoint someone to take Leighton’s finance opening.
