Volunteer Coordinator Joins Friendship Cottage

BLUE HILL — Julie Patton has joined the staff at Friendship Cottage as volunteer coordinator.

Patton holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation management from the University of Maine at Machias. Since 2004, she has been the Christmas Program coordinator at the Maine Sea Coast Mission, organizing and distributing more than 15,000 items to those in need during the holiday season.

In 2001, Patton interned as the education coordinator at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center.

“Julie has a clear understanding of the diverse contributions volunteers offer,” Program Site Manager Anne Ossanna said. “Her enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of community resources will enhance the programs offered at Friendship Cottage.”

Friendship Cottage is an adult day service program serving adults who are coping with physical, mental or memory challenges. The facility’s team of trained professionals and volunteers provide opportunities throughout the day for physical fitness, creative self-expression and exploration of interests.

Funding for the volunteer coordinator position was obtained from the Llewellyn Foundation. Volunteer opportunities at Friendship Cottage include: noon meal preparation on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; presentations by artists and musicians; individuals for one-on-one activities; and van drivers.

All volunteers are required to have training in the Best Friends Approach to Caregiving, provided at Friendship Cottage.
