Virtual ChowderFest, raffles and deals planned for Autumn Gold

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce is carrying on its 35-year tradition of celebrating the fall season next week with Autumn Gold.

Festivities include a virtual chowder fest, Jumbo Jackpot, boat rides, deals and a decorating contest.

The Jumbo Jackpot prize is $2,500. Tickets are $10 each (available at the Ellsworth Chamber Visitor Center) and only 500 will be sold. The drawing is Saturday, Sept. 26, at Harbor Park.

Entry in the Go for the Gold raffle is free and shoppers can win gift cards and merchandise. Look for the bags at chamber member retailers. Local stores will offer specials and events.

Judging for the Autumn Gold Decorating Contest kicks off Monday and the winner will be announced Friday, Sept. 25.

Ellsworth Public Library will have Autumn-themed grab-and-go craft kits, an outside story walk and free copies of Big Read book “Lab Girl.” Check with the library for details and times.

The chamber’s annual awards dinner will be held virtually Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 25, WVII on the Road will do a live remote newscast from Ellsworth.

More festivities are planned for Saturday, Sept. 26.

The annual chowder festival, one of Autumn Gold’s signature events, will follow a different format this year due to COVID-19. Participating restaurants will offer ChowderFest specials of their award-winning chowders at their businesses. Restaurants include, Helen’s, Governor’s, Sylvia’s Café, Flexit Cafe & Bakery, The Beacon Bar & Grill and The Dunbar Store.

There will be a charity golf scramble at Lucerne Golf Course to benefit Camp CaPella Charity Golf, with 7 a.m. registration and an 8 a.m. start. The Roger Willey Road Race (registration limited, COVID precautions in place) will start at 8 a.m. for the 10K and 9:30 for the 5K.

Free boat rides on the Union River will be offered from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Masks are required.

Pet nail trimming and microchipping will be offered at Harbor Park from 10 a.m.-1.

The Pull for the Cure event is set for 10 a.m. at Maine Coast Mall. Teams of 10 will pull a fire truck.

The Maine Coast Mall will also host a craft fair and children’s activities.

Downeast Scenic Railroad will offer train rides at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Two children (ages 15 and under) ride free with an adult.

Fogtown Brewing will be releasing a new beer, The Missing Piece, a wet-hopped American pale ale. Chris Ross will perform in the Beer Garden at 4:30 pm. Tickets are $12.
