Deer Isle Town Clerk Becky Knowlton has been hired to serve as the town’s administrative assistant as well.

DEER ISLE — The Board of Selectmen has hired Town Clerk Becky Knowlton to work as the board’s administrative assistant.

Knowlton has been town clerk, an elected post, for seven years. She was re-elected in March and will continue in that role, handling licenses, elections other matters.

At the Town Meeting in March, voters approved the hiring of an assistant to help get the town office computerized. The assistant was to work closely with First Selectman Neville Hardy. However, Hardy has become ill and is in the hospital.

“We’re planning on him coming back when he can,” Knowlton said.

Knowlton is working with the other selectmen, Lew Ellis and Ron Eaton.
